I listened to Tim Ferriss' book "four hour work week" https://fourhourworkweek.com/; an action item I took from that book was hiring an assistant through upwork.com. I've had both successes with my hires and failures; however, the success' outweighs the shortcomings by a landslide! The time freeing opportunity that a personal assistant can give me is fantastic! Here is a little recap of how it went down.
Currently, I am employed as a W2 employee, I've had dreams and aspirations to not be employed but run my own gig for years. Without my knowledge, I've been incorporating my FYFN (Five Years From Now) carefully planning an option to do exactly that. Little did I know it would come into fruition about five years later.
Here I sit a few months out from going on my own, and my W2 employer forbids me to post anything on Linkedin. I am forced to delete every post I've ever done! My posts were strategic, and in no way, a conflict against my current employer drove me crazy. So what do I do? Fixed mindset, give up of course! J/K How do I get around this? Well, first, I save all my work and postings so that the day I'm on my own, I revitalize my LinkedIn profile. Behind the scenes, I can continue to develop my network, requesting and accepting connections. I came up with the idea of getting into some universities locally for guest speaking on Qualified Plans / FYFN / FIRE (or in my opinion FIRR, Financially Independent Retire Rich Rich being in life quality not in money) but I digress. Therefore, utilizing Four Hour Work Weeks concept of hiring a personal assistant, I was off to hire an assistant to get me a public speaking engagement at a university. My assumption, it would take quite a while before I landed my first gig so I may as well get started.
Well, my assumption was more than correct; however, mind blown! I interviewed a few assistants, via online messaging, came across Grace, she is FANTASTIC. The first thing she did is tell me I was wrong in my approach! I love that! She recommended I reach out to podcasts that are on similar topics and get some guest speaking engagements. Best $5 I've ever spent! For two months now she's been reaching out to podcasts and landed me a gig, and a potential coming up. With a total investment of under 100 bucks! I've included the link to my first "gig" as a guest speaker on a podcast. Terribly embarrassing, which is why I'm putting it on here.

What I learned when I listen to myself, I talk way, way, WAY too much, I'm loud, (I've always known that!) my enthusiasm is there probably in excess, but absolutely most importantly I talk too much! Sadly, I think the only point I got across was that I am enthusiastic about what I'm doing, which is a good thing, however, if I'm enthusiastic about talking too much that's terrible! What's great is that I can incorporate a growth midset to this experience and accept the challenge. I'm no natural, that's for damn sure!
Thus out of success' came failure, and out of failure comes opportunity!
